A third complaint against Rajya Sabha MP KD Singh’s Alchemist Group was lodged with Baguiati police station on Tuesday. The complaint was lodged alleging that the complainant did not get the money, that he had invested in the group, back. Two earlier complaints on similar charges were lodged with Garfa and Bowbazar police station. An investor Jayanta Kumar Chattopadhyay lodged the complaint with the police against five officials of the group. He alleged that he was supposed to get Rs 11.5 lakh back from the group against his investment. He did not get the sum back despite repeated attempts and request. On March 16, a section of investors lodged a complaint with the Bowbazar police station alleging that the group had cheated them of Rs 2,53,01,063. The investors had lodged the complaint against Singh and two other directors, Kumarjit Singh and Pawan Verma. Cases against them were started under various Sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on charges of cheating (420 IPC), criminal breach of trust (406 IPC), and criminal conspiracy (120B). Subsequently, the Kolkata Police had formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe into the allegations. The Alchemist group had collected a huge amount of money from different parts of the state through its chit fund scams. The police had initiated collecting information about activities of the group because that investors lodged complaint alleging that they were not getting their money back, as per the assurances were given by the company. The police would speak to some of the investors to get information about some agents who were well aware of the activities of the group. The Directorate of Economic Offence (DEO) also initiated the process of assessing the property of the group in Bengal. The agency has initiated the probe against seven such chit fund groups. The DEO will be distributing the money among the affected ones after auctioning of the property as per the West Bengal Protection of Interest of Depositors in Financial Establishments Act.
